The case of the worried waitress
Published in Unknown Binding by Chivers North Amer ()
Author: Erle Stanley Gardner
Average review score:

Last Perry Mason book ends with a bang!
We all know how brilliant Perry Mason is, and in 'Worried Waitress' he shows it off like never before. This time, he's up against impossible odds [not to mention Hamilton Burger] in a case that is virtually nailed shut. The mystery whirls through multiple case-changing revelations until it reaches the final court-room scene, in which Mason throws out an ace like you've never seen. This one is a fitting end to the 80+ series starring Perry Mason, and it's got to be read to be believed.

A Century's Journey: How the Great Powers Shape the World
Published in Hardcover by Basic Books (September, 1999)
Authors: Robert A. Pastor, Stanley Hoffmann, Robert Legvold, and Michel Oksenberg
Average review score:

Useful insight for global business.
To understand business in the new century, we need to understand the political and cultural forces shaping global power. Pastor and his six other renowned foreign policy co-authors argue that the key to understanding the world's future lies in how the great powers shaped the 20th century. This book helps us understand the recent history of political influence on markets. Pastor adds to his own important chapters contributions by six of the world's leading experts on their respective powers, e.g. China, Japan, Germany, etc. The book is clearly written and Pastor does an admirable job integrating both the contributions from the separate regional experts and the lessons from the past that aid our forecasts for the future. This book teaches us much about the political and cultural issues driving power relationships and leadership in the global economy.

Child & Adolescent Psychopharmacology
Published in Paperback by W B Saunders (15 January, 1997)
Authors: Stanley P. Kutcher and Judy Fletcher
Average review score:

Highly practical review of child psychopharmacology
Of all the texts available on the subject of the psychopharmacology of childhood psychiatric disorders this is the one I like the best. The main reason is the care and detail in which Dr. Kutcher sets forth the (for me) basic axiom of treating children, which is that each child is unique, so each medication trial is, in effect, a research experiment with a N of 1. He provides an excellent range of measurement tools, including making up your own for specific symptoms. There are lots of good clinical examples which ground medication in the context of the child and family. All in all an unusually practical and well-written book. Wm. Bolman, M.D., Clinical Professor of Child Psychiatry
